It’s fair to say that education wasn’t my first career choice. Born into generational poverty, academia wasn't central to my cultural location. In fact, I dropped out of high school twice before earning my diploma. My professional journey has been driven by a commitment to advocacy for individuals and groups who face obstacles. I’ve worked as a homeless advocate, a family advocate for a domestic violence agency, and while pursuing graduate studies, I supported clinicians at a community mental health center. Each of these roles had one thing in common with education: the focus on connecting people with the services, knowledge, and skills they need to carve out their own paths in life.

Gradually, I found myself drawn closer to the classroom and eventually landed a position in pre-K. It was then that I could no longer ignore my growing passion for education, leading me to obtain my teaching license. From there, I transitioned from classroom teaching to instructional coaching, and now lead literacy improvements and MTSS for a consortium of 21 schools for students with special needs. And because I just can't stay away from the classroom, I’ve recently started teaching developmental readers at the collegiate level.

To say I'm passionate about this is an understatement. Let's work together to change some lives.
