It is not an exaggeration to say that your mindset largely determines what you get out of life. Are you working from a lack mindset -- the belief that there isn't enough? Or is your frame of reference an abundance mindset? Here's a simple way to check.
Think about another person's good fortune. It could be anything from your friend's ability to take frequent long vacations, a co-worker who just got another promotion, or even the person in front of you in the coffee line getting their latte on the house. It really could be anything. As you are thinking about this, take note of how you are feeling.
Is it joy? Do you see the universe as a bountiful place that always provides enough for everyone, prompting you to feel deep satisfaction at the recognition of such abundance, wherever it shows up?
Or is it closer to jealousy? This isn't about judgement or pretending to feel better for others than you do. It's just a way to assess your mindset. If it is jealously, that's simply a result of the belief that someone else's abundance is tied to a shortage elsewhere (and usually your shortage).
I've talked a lot about choosing joy. Ask yourself again how you want to feel. Then take a moment to find the source of that feeling. Is it a lack mindset?
In upcoming posts, I'll talk about all the different ways our beliefs shape and dictate our realities. Recognizing your most central beliefs about life is vital to changing the way you experience the world.
More to come.
